Children have such different personalities from their siblings. I find that this is so true with my 3 boys. Omar, my 9 year old has always been interested in learning. From as young as 2, he's loved learning his letters and numbers. He learned to read by four. Diego, my 6 year old was not as interested, but did let me teach him numbers and ABC's by a reasonable age.
Ruben, my 3 year old, however, is so resistant. I've tried to teach him the ABC's with some flashcards. He's let me teach him about 6 letters, but hates reviewing them. When I ask him a letter, he says it wrong on purpose and laughs. He refuses to let me review the letters and walks away.
My two oldest boys would sit and do puzzles or play a game for long periods of time. Ruben can only sit still for a few minutes before becoming bored. We'll start a game or a puzzle and two minutes into it, he'll start scattering the pieces. He prefers to be active--running around. He won't sit still long enough to do much of anything. It's kind of frustrating because we have so many puzzles, games, books and he wants very little to do with that.
Ruben is so different than my oldest two; sometimes I'm not sure what to do with him. On the other hand, he enjoys other things that my youngest don't. He loves to watch train crashes on You Tube while Diego has to leave the room if Ruben is watching that. Ruben loves to crash things. He also is not easily frightened. The other day during a thunderstorm, he opened the door and watched the rain, not scared at all of the thunder. My other two at that age would scream at the sound of thunder. Ruben stood in line to pet a baby alligator while my other two would run the other way.
It's just so interesting how different children are even though they're raised in the same home. Omar and Diego are so good in school and church. They sit still and are so obedient. Ruben is all over the place and I wonder how he'll do in school. He's the first one to need stitches at age two. He picks up bugs and likes to look at snakes. It is really a lot of fun to have my boys be so different and have different personalities. I enjoy and love each one. I just hope one day, Ruben will let me teach him the ABC's.

I can relate! Each child is certainly sent to Earth with their own personality. Bekah wanted nothing to do with anything academic until she started Kindergarten- then she loved it!
I know what you are talking about...they all come so different!! Just when I think I have parenting figured out I am baffled by one of them....Well, I never actually thought I had parenting figured out, just though I had a few things figured out.:)
I have 10 kids with 10 different personalities. There are some similarities here and there, but for the most part, they are each unique. It is funny how such different kids can come from the same set of parents.
